When you step into Bloomfield United Church on a Sunday morning, you will be greeted warmly at the door — with a bulletin, a smile, and the knowledge that you are expected and welcome. Our sanctuary, built in 1871, is a beautiful and peaceful space that immediately invites a sense of the sacred.
Our worship services typically include congregational singing of both traditional hymns and contemporary songs, scripture readings, a reflective sermon, time for prayer (both communal and silent), and the opportunity to connect with fellow worshippers. The service draws on the best of our Methodist, Presbyterian, and Congregational heritage while remaining open and forward-looking.
Children are always welcome in worship. We offer a dedicated children's moment partway through the service before the younger ones move to their Sunday School gathering. Families of all compositions and configurations will find a genuine welcome here.
Music is central to our worship tradition. At the heart of our music ministry is our historic electric organ, installed in 1930 and lovingly maintained ever since. Its warm, resonant tones have accompanied generations of Bloomfield worshippers through seasons of joy, sorrow, celebration, and renewal.
Our congregation choir meets weekly to prepare anthems, hymn arrangements, and seasonal choral music. Whether seasoned vocalist or enthusiastic newcomer, all who love to sing are invited to inquire about joining. The choir performs at regular Sunday services and presents special concerts throughout the year, including our beloved Spring Community Concert.
Beyond the organ and choir, our worship incorporates piano, occasional instrumental contributions from congregation members, and congregational singing that fills our sanctuary with joyful sound. Music at Bloomfield United Church is participatory — we want every voice to be heard.
Inquire About Joining the ChoirAmong the most treasured features of our sanctuary are the stained-glass windows, installed during the comprehensive remodelling of 1904. These luminous works of art represent the culmination of the congregation's decades of investment in creating a truly beautiful place of worship.
As the morning light streams through the coloured glass, the sanctuary is bathed in warm hues of gold, crimson, violet, and deep blue — creating an atmosphere of transcendent beauty that has moved worshippers for over a century. The windows depict scenes and symbols of the Christian faith, serving as a visual meditation on the stories and values that shape our life together.
For many visitors and members alike, simply sitting in the sanctuary and allowing the filtered light to wash over them is itself a form of prayer. We invite you to come early on a Sunday morning and experience this beauty for yourself.
We celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of each month. The table is open to all — there are no requirements or qualifications needed to receive bread and cup. This is Christ's table, and every person is invited. We use gluten-aware options and grape juice to ensure all can participate fully.
We celebrate Baptism as a sign of God's unconditional love and welcome. We baptize infants and children presented by their families, as well as adults who are joining the faith community. We also celebrate the reaffirmation of baptismal vows for those returning to active faith. Contact our minister to arrange a baptism.
Our worship follows the rhythm of the Christian calendar, marking the great seasons of faith with special services, music, and reflection.

We are committed to making our worship accessible to everyone. Our building includes a ground-level entrance, large-print bulletins available on request, and hearing assistance for those who need it. If you have accessibility needs or questions before your first visit, please contact us in advance — we want to ensure your experience is comfortable and fully participatory.
We also recognize that health, distance, and other circumstances can prevent in-person attendance. Our YouTube channel ensures that everyone can take part in our community's worship life, regardless of their situation.
