Community programs and ministry events at Bloomfield United Church — people engaged in faith formation and outreach

Programs & Ministries

Meaningful ways to grow, connect, serve, and contribute to the life of our congregation and community.

Faith in Action

At Bloomfield United Church, faith is not confined to Sunday morning. Our programs and ministries offer pathways for people of every age and stage of life to deepen their relationship with God, with one another, and with the wider world. Whether you are drawn to service, learning, music, or pastoral support, there is a place for you here.

Our Ministries

Children & Youth Ministry

Our Sunday School program provides a vibrant, age-appropriate faith formation experience for children from nursery age through Grade 8. Each Sunday, children enjoy engaging stories, creative activities, and thoughtful conversations about faith, values, and what it means to love their neighbours.

Our youth group (Grades 9–12) meets monthly for discussions, service projects, social events, and retreats. Each summer, we offer a week of Vacation Bible School (VBS) — a highlight of the year for children across Prince Edward County. We also connect youth with the United Church of Canada's regional programs and camps.

Adult Faith Formation

Never stop learning. Our adult faith formation program offers a range of opportunities for spiritual deepening throughout the year. Weekly Bible study groups explore scripture in depth, using a variety of commentary traditions and welcoming all questions.

We also offer periodic faith exploration courses for those new to Christianity or returning after time away — a gentle, non-pressured environment to ask big questions. Seasonal book clubs, theological discussion evenings, and guest speakers round out a rich program designed for curious, committed adults at every stage of their spiritual journey.

Music Ministry

Music is at the soul of Bloomfield United Church. Our choir rehearses weekly and performs sacred anthems, hymn arrangements, and seasonal choral works at Sunday services and special events throughout the year. All voice types are welcome — enthusiasm matters more than experience.

Our historic 1930 electric organ remains a cherished centrepiece of worship. We also host community concerts open to all, celebrating our musical heritage and sharing the gift of sacred music with Prince Edward County. If you play an instrument and would like to contribute to worship, we warmly invite you to speak with our music director.

Pastoral Care

No one in our community should face illness, grief, or difficult seasons alone. Our pastoral care ministry provides compassionate support through regular visits to homebound and hospitalized members, a congregational prayer chain, and one-on-one pastoral conversations with our minister.

We also offer grief support gatherings for those who have experienced loss, and confidential pastoral counselling for individuals and families navigating life's challenges. If you or someone you know is in need of pastoral support, please do not hesitate to reach out — care is always available.

Community Meals & Fellowship

Food has always been at the heart of Christian community. Our fellowship luncheons after Sunday services are a much-loved tradition — a relaxed, welcoming chance to share a meal, meet new people, and deepen existing friendships. Everyone is invited and no one is turned away.

Throughout the year, we host potluck dinners, seasonal celebrations, and inclusive gatherings that bring the congregation together around the table. These meals are more than social events — they are expressions of our deepest values of hospitality, generosity, and belonging.

Environmental Stewardship

As people of faith, we believe we are called to be faithful stewards of God's creation. Our environmental stewardship initiatives include energy-efficiency improvements to our 1871 building, waste reduction programs, and our "Green Church" commitments through the United Church of Canada's Affirming Ministries and Caring for Creation networks.

We organize seasonal outdoor worship events, community clean-up days in partnership with local organizations, and educational sessions on creation care and environmental justice. For us, caring for the earth and caring for our neighbours are not separate callings — they are one.

Community Outreach & Food Security

Our faith compels us outward. We are active supporters of local food banks and community pantries serving residents of Bloomfield and Prince Edward County. Members regularly volunteer their time sorting, packing, and distributing food, and the congregation contributes non-perishables at designated collection Sundays throughout the year.

We also partner with regional organizations working on poverty reduction, affordable housing advocacy, and emergency assistance for those in crisis. Our outreach is grounded in the belief that justice is not charity — it is a restoration of dignity and possibility for every person.
